Declining of Wilderbeest in Masai Mara

According to Charles Ndegwa Mundia and Yuji Murayama’s 2009 Study, wildebeest in the Masai Mara Ecosystem have declined by 74% over 32 years, primarily due to the expansion of mechanized farming on wet-season rangelands. This agricultural conversion, which fenced off critical grazing areas, has excluded wildlife, particularly during key wet and dry seasons. The most significant population declines occurred between 1985 and 1997, while livestock numbers have shown a fluctuating but increasing trend in recent years.
